The Ideal Bushcraft Bag – in 2 options…

Prepared Pathfinder-Bergen Review Bushcraft Bag

The Kitpimp Pathfinder Bergen Bag has been a core seller for those wanting an ideal bushcraft bag that could carry the kitchen sink and was brought in as a solution for those soldiers who wanted an off the shelf solution for a bergen which had all the most commonly asked for modifications and tailoring adaptions found in “pre-pimped” rucksacks rather than sending or purchasing a forces issued PLCE Bergen and sending it off to some of the most popular tailors in the UK like Troopers of Colchester, Dixies Corner, Genuine Jay Jays, and Dragon Supplies for example.

The PLCE classic profile used in the Bushcraft range are an ideal set up for a base range – The PLCE bergen would be sent off and the user would pay exorbitant prices for the modifications already found in our Pathfinder Bergen like a triple utility pouch, poncho pouch, mesh side pouches, shoulder strap enhancements, mesh back, tactical floating lid, MOLLE on hip pad, a tailored bergen lid with internal compartments – just from one tailoring business we looked at, this would come up to over £435, and that’s not including a bergen!

We’d like to thank Tom Blakey, a well decorated forces veteran of the Parachute Regiment and the content owner of Prepared Pathfinder, for conducting an indepth test and review of our kit, you can see the video review article published here or at the bottom of the article we’ve posted on this page.

The Kitpimp Pathfinder Bergen itself however proved itself to be a popular solution for those in the bushcraft and civilian hiking community as a Bushcraft Bag and we released a version in olive drab green for those wanting a more friendly alternative less warry colour, and thus you have the Kitpimp Pathfinder Green Bergen and it’s proved, for those wanting to carry everything plus the kitchen sink, an ideal bushcraft bag.

With the 1000D nylon it prioritizes durability, and the modifications it comes with give functionality, and padded foam backing and shoulder straps give comfort, and the massive size gives carrying capacity.

It’s not a light rucksack, but as Tom from Prepared Pathfinder said, you can’t have this functionality and durable materials and it not be a light rucksack, but luckily for those who want something lighter for a daypack we have the Commanders Patrol Pack.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown of what makes a good bushcraft bag:

  • Durability:

Bushy environments can be harsh, so a bag made with high-quality, abrasion-resistant materials like canvas or nylon is essential

  • Functionality:

A good bushcraft bag should have multiple compartments for organized gear storage. External pouches and a MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) system can be useful for attaching smaller items.

  • Comfort:

A comfortable bushcraft bag will have supportive back panels and shoulder straps, especially if you plan to carry heavier loads. A hip belt can help distribute the weight and keep it closer to your body.

  • Size:

For single-day trips, a 30-liter or smaller pack is often sufficient. For multi-day adventures, you may need a larger capacity, like this one

  • Water Resistance:

Consider a bag with water-resistant materials or a waterproof liner, especially if you plan to venture out in wet conditions, this one is already made of waterproof nylon and can be used with a waterproof rucksack cover

  • Weight:

While durability is important, lighter bags can be more comfortable to carry, especially on longer treks, this one is designed for extended trips.
