A decision was made when going to the drawing board in our manufacturing run of jackets to use MTP NYCO, not because it was more costly than the traditional 65/35 polycotton blend but the added advantages it would give to those using the garment in a combat environment where the jacket is obviously the primary baselayer, the main requirements?
Well there were many – As it stands as of 2023 NYCO stands at the top of the food chain when it comes to a solution needed for combat garments in terms of the overall cost to benefit ratio in terms of quality.
It’s commonly known NyCo (nylon-cotton blend) is a material commonly used in the manufacture of tactical gear. What makes it so well-suited to this application is the combining of the best that each of the two base fibres offers. Nylon brings to the mix its great durability and more, while cotton brings comfort plus other excellent qualities.
Standard garments in the UK Armed Forces use the cheaper 65/35 polycotton blend as the industry standard due to cost effectiveness, due to the requirements for a cost effective solution, but if you want a premium solution with more benefits than MTP NYCO is the way to go.
Our first product to use MTP NYCO is our standard MTP SAS Smock
Comfort – NYCO is used extensively in the manufacture of tactical gear and apparel. The reason is it offers outstanding performance characteristics: abrasion resistance, durability, breathability, and comfort. The NyCo we customarily utilize here at is made by employing the weaving techniques of rip-stop and twill.
Resilience – NYCO has awesome colour retention and a high abrasion resistance, it’s durable and has a high shear-strength
IRR – The fabric itself features an infra-red reflective finish to ensure it meets military spec requirements from a combat garment for those needing a solution in the Armed Forces
Waterproofing – Our jackets come with a durable water repellant also known as a DWR coating, this can be further maintained with the appropriate treatments over extended periods of time to ensure the waterproofing is maintained, ensuring this jacket is the only one you need for extended use in the field.
